Research Description:
Cardiac extracellular matrix (ECM) biology is my major research focus, particularly changes to the ECM that are the cause or effect of pathophysiological processes. These changes include cell-matrix interactions, which both affect and react to processes involved in tissue repair. My laboratory primarily uses the murine model of myocardial infarction (MI) to study ECM remodeling. In addition to ECM proteomics, we also measure biochemical, cell biological and physiological outputs.

Current Projects include:

  • Identifying novel MMP substrates in post-MI tissues.
  • Using ECM peptidomics to identify novel signaling pathways altered post-MI.
  • Examining the roles of macrophages and fibroblasts in post-MI remodeling of the left ventricle.
  • Determining the role of aging or periodontal disease on the remodeling process.
  • Discovering novel ECM biomarkers of adverse left ventricular remodeling.
